Follow-ups

As a follow up to my earlier post about turkey-brie-apple sandwiches, I can now say with certainty that pumpernickel bread is a delicious bread choice for this sandwich and that Jazz apples are equally as tasty as the Honeycrisps were.

Also, in regards to my post about the Help Nathan Buy Firefly campaign, the campaign is now in the final stages of phase one. On February 27, they set up the promised pledge system. As of this posting, Firefly fans have pledged to donate $771,897 to help bring back the series. Not anywhere close to the $300 million that is supposedly needed. And, of course, Nathan Fillion has since tweeted that he does not want fans sending him any money.

This is pretty much what I expected would happen, although I will freely admit that I still hoped for a miracle. Not to say that nothing is going to happen with this campaign (anything’s possible, right?), but it doesn’t seem likely that a new season of Firefly is going to be the result.

Still, all the buzz has led to one very fortunate circumstance for me and my fellow Browncoats in Athens. One of my friends has decided to host a Firefly/Serenity marathon this Saturday. That means that, provided I get enough of my thesis written in the next three days, I will be spending my Saturday lounging on a very comfortable bean bag chair, drink in hand (did I mention he’s an excellent bartender?), surrounded by my awesomely geeky friends as we enjoy a sci-fi TV series that, in a perfect world, would be in its 10th season.
