This post is none too timely, I’m aware, but I didn’t have time to write it yesterday. So sue me! Yesterday, as we all know, was “the Big Game.” Or, for those of us with little or no stake in which team won, it was “One Giant String of ‘Great’ Commercials Interspersed with Some Football.” But aside from the importance of passing judgment on each commercial and tweeting that judgment to the rest of the Internet, food is also an integral part of the day. This year, I was invited to a potluck Super Bowl party, so I decided to try out another new recipe.
I should probably pause right now and mention that I grew up in Dallas, Texas in the 1990s, when the Cowboys were in their glory years. I don’t remember much about the mechanics of the game, but I do remember the Super Bowl parties my parents would host and the delicious food that went with them. One of these dishes was what Mom called “Super Bowl Sandwiches,” and that’s what I decided to make this year.
I found a recipe here at allrecipes.com. I made a couple of alterations (doubling the amount of fennel seed and garlic), and it ended up tasting just like I remembered.
Oh yeah, and I served it with marinara sauce, because that’s what Mom always did. It was a hit at the party!
